Installation/Instructions/DSA Series
CM-1 CobraNet Interface Card
These instructions apply to all DSA Series loudspeakers.
1. Description:
The optional CM-1 CobraNet Interface Card allows audio and computer control signals to be distributed to DSA Series loud-
speakers using a 100BASE-T Fast Ethernet network. These instructions detail how to install the CM-1 CobraNet Interface
Card into the loudspeaker. See the DSA Series Owner’s Manual for information about implementing the CobraNet network.
WARNING: Prior to installing the CM-1 ensure that the AC mains to the loudspeaker is disconnected or off. Installation with
the AC mains on can permanently damage either the CM-1 or the electronics in the loudspeaker.

2. Usage:
Install the CM-1 in the loudspeaker to provide the interface for
connecting to a CobraNet network using CAT-5 cable with an RJ-45 connector.
DANGER: When unpacking, handling, and installing the CM-1 card, ensure
there is no static build-up. A static discharge from your body, work surface, or
loudspeaker to the CM-1 card can permanently damage the CM-1’s electronics.
3. Installation:
1. Position the loudspeaker so the Signal End can be easily accessed.
2. Remove the four screws retaining the cover plate for the card slot.
Retain these screws for installing the CM-1. Remove the plate.
3. Carefully remove the CM-1 from its packaging, handling the PC board only by its edges. Avoid contact with
the gold connector contacts at the base of the Card Assembly or with any of the components on the PC board.
4. While holding the CM-1, ensure there is no static potential by firmly touching the rear metal of the loud-
speaker enclosure with your other hand before allowing the card to contact the loudspeaker.
5. Orienting the CM-1 as shown, insert the card into its slot. Do this by aligning the card with the connector at
the bottom of the slot. Push down on the card evenly but firmly to seat it in the connector. Rocking the card
very slightly side-to-side, while applying pressure, may facilitate insertion.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the card is “square” to and fully seated in the connector at the bottom of the card slot.
6. Reinstall the four screws removed in step 2 to attach the CM-1 to the loudspeaker.
7. Connect the Ethernet cable to the the Primary RJ-45 connector on the CM-1 before turning on the AC Mains.
NOTE: The Secondary RJ-45 connector is for a second, redundant network. See DSA Owner’s Manual for more
information on the use of the Secondary connector.
