
AD168 software release 2.1 is provided as an upgrade
enabling optimal system performance using High Speed
Data Line communications. This document provides a
listing of hardware and software pre-requisites, and a
general overview of the procedure to implement the
release.
The procedure provided is comprehensive, and is meant
to address all AD168 users. Some users may find that
they have completed a step or steps in the procedure
previously. If so, they can proceed to the next step
without redundancy.

AD168UPGR-21 Consists of the following
three (3) diskettes:
AD System Software Version 2.1
P/N 0700-5066-01 (two diskettes)
Disk 1 of 2 contains upgrade software for the
VIM, VOM, and CCM cards.
Disk 2 of 2 contains upgrade software for the
CPM and PSM cards.
AD168 S³ Software Version 1.11
P/N 0701-1332-1D4A (one diskette)
AD168UPGR-CBL Consisting of a Bootload
Interface Box, and two (2) interface cables that
connect the Bootload Interface Box to the user’s
PC, and to any one of the front panel cards in the
AD168 bay.
AD168UPGR-CPU Consisting of two (2)
EPROMs to be inserted in the AD168 CPM card
(some users may have implemented this procedure
prior to Release 2.1).
P/N 0701-13T1-1F0A (for CPM socket U31)
P/N 0701-13T1-2F0A (for CPM socket U32)
Note: If the CPM card in your AD168 system
does not have EPROMs with the above-listed
part numbers inserted in the CPM, you must
replace the EPROMs.

Install S³, Version 1.11 on your PC. If necessary,
refer to the S³ install instructions in the AD168
System Administrator’s Manual PN 8000-0935-01.
Note: Be sure to uninstall any previous version of
S³ using the Add/Remove Programs function in the
Windows 95 or NT control panel. Note: After
finishing the installation of S³, a blue screen will
appear for approximately 20-30 seconds before the
program starts. Do not exit the program during this
interval. The version number of the user’s currently
installed S³ is indicated on the caption bar at the
top of the initial S³ screen.

Upload the current AD168 system parameters to
the newly installed S³.

Power down the AD168 system.
4.
Remove the front cover and the retainer bar of the
AD168 bay. Remove the CPM card from slot Q of
the AD168 bay.
5.
Inspect socket U31 on the CPM card. If the socket
does not contain an EPROM labeled 0701-13T1-
1F0A, replace the EPROM before proceeding
further.
6.
Inspect socket U32 on the CPM card. If the socket
does not contain an EPROM labeled 0701-13T1-
2F0A, replace the EPROM before proceeding
further.
7.
With the exception of the power supply module,
pull all AD168 modules to be upgraded out of their
respective mid-plane connectors, but do not
remove the modules from their bay slots.
8.
Connect the female end of the PC interface cable to
the DB-9 COM 1 RS-232 serial port on the PC.
Note: Call Tech Support if COM 1 is not available.

1.
When performing a VIM upgrade, start at the right-
most VIM in the bay; connect the 8-pin bay
interface connector to the J18 right-angled header
on the VIM. Make sure that pin 1 of the interface
connector is connected to the top-most pin on J18.

Apply power to the AD168 bay.
3.
Push the card into place in the mid-plane
connector. Note: the VIM’s green UOP LED will
not illuminate. The 2.1 software must be
downloaded, and the system must be re-booted
before the LED will illuminate and start flashing.
4.
Insert Disk 1 of the AD System Software Version
2.1 into the floppy drive of your PC. Click
Start/Programs/MS-DOS Prompt (Command
Prompt in Windows NT).
5.
Type “a:” (return).
6.
Type “cd vim” (return).
7.
Type “ cd 0701-1312-1D4A” (return).
8.
Type “blue” (return). This will download the
appropriate code for the VIM upgrade. When the
message “Program terminated successfully”
appears, download is complete.
9.
Remove the interface connector from the initial
VIM, and connect to the next VIM (moving left) in
the bay. Repeat step 8 for each VIM in the bay.
