original packing. Perform all unpacking and installation procedures on a ground-connected
anti-static mat.
Open Chassis
Remove the lid by unlocking the top. Lift the lid up and then off.
Locate the four screws that secure the rear cover and remove them. Remove the rear cover by
lifting it straight up and then off.
Install CPU and Memory, Continued
The SDRAM DIMM socket on the motherboard can be populated with either 1 MB x 64 (or 72), 2
MB x 64 (or 72), 4 MB x 64 (or 72), 8 MB x 64 (or 72), or 16 MB x 64 (or 72) DIMMs.
Note: Registered DIMM modules are not supported. Double Stacked DIMM modules are not
supported. If you are using the AMI NAS software, you must install 256 MB of memory.
In order for you to insert the memory module, you must remove the I/O shield. Unscrew the four
screws that secure the rear I/O shield. Lift the shield along with the network interface connectors
and cables out of the way. Insert the memory and replace the rear I/O shield.
Replace Cover
Replace the cover by aligning the pins on the chassis cover with the pin guides on the chassis.
Replace the four screws to secure it into place.
Install into Rack
Mount the rack rails to the side of the StorTrends 1108 chassis. See your rail/slide and rack
installation guide for exact instructions on installing a 1U chassis.
Caution
Check the leveling jacks to be sure that they are fully extended.
Make sure that the rack is stable before extending a component.
Extend one component at a time from the rack.
Install heavier components on the bottom of the rack.
Install CPU and Memory
Locate the Socket 370 and insert the CPU. Mount the cooling fan and heatsink on top of it. Plug the
CPU cooling fan into connector JP6. It is a 3-pin berg that connects the fan on the CPU heat sink to
the motherboard power. JP6 is located in-between the CPU and memory slot.
Connect Cables
NIC1 NIC2 Power Power
Check the power supplies on the back of the chassis. Both two power supplies must be in the “On”
position designated by a line. Connect the power cord and LAN cables(s) as applicable.
