Inspect Contents
Inspect the cardboard carton for obvious damage. (If damaged, call 770-246-8600. Leave it in its
original packaging.) Perform all unpacking and installation procedures on a ground-connected
anti-static mat.
Open Chassis
Remove the lid by unscrewing the two screws that hold it into place. Slide the lid back one-inch
and lift the lid off.
Replace Cover
Replace the cover by aligning the pins on the chassis cover with the pin guides on the chassis.
Replace the two screws to secure it into place.
Install into Rack
Mount the rack rails to the side of the StorTrends® 1312 chassis. See your rack manual for exact
instructions on installing a 3U chassis into it.
Caution
Check the leveling jacks to be sure that they are fully extended.
Make sure that the rack is stable before extending a component.
Extend one component at a time from the rack.
Install heavier components on the bottom of the rack.
Connect Cables
Check the power supplies on the back of the chassis. All three must be in the “On” position
designated by a line. Connect the power cord and LAN cable(s) as applicable.
Install CPU and Memory
Locate the Socket 370 and insert the CPU. Mount the cooling fan and heatsink on top of it. Plug the
CPU cooling fan into connector JP6. It is a 3-pin berg that connects the fan on the CPU heat sink to
the motherboard power. JP6 is located in-between the CPU and memory slot.
Memory Module
The SDRAM DIMM socket on the motherboard can be populated with any of the following 168-pin
3.3V SDRAM: 8 MB, 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, or 256 MB.
Note: Registered DIMM modules are not supported. Double Stacked DIMM modules are not
supported. If you are using the AMI NAS software, you must install 256 MB of memory.
Warning
The power supplies can not auto sense the voltage. If you are using 220 V power,
make sure each power supply is set to 220 V. If you use 220 V power and the
power supplies are set to 110 V, you will physically damage the backplane and
void your warranty.
