Gigabit On Copper
Today's networks require a higher level of performance to
compete in the marketplace. Hawking’s GS108T Gigabit
Ethernet Switch solutions equip you with a easy-to-use,
standards-based technology that delivers the throughput
your users demand using Ethernet technology.
1000BASE-T is Ethernet that provides speeds of 1000
Mbps over Category 5 copper cabling. The IEEE
Standards Committee formally ratified 1000BASE-T as an
Ethernet standard in June 1999.
The Hawking’s GS108T Gigabit Switch provides 1 RJ-45
1000BASE-T port to connect to a Gigabit Backbone or
Gigabit Server to increases the performance of your
network. The GS108T provides a full wire-rate Gigabit
Switch port for greater network performance.
Migrating Ethernet/Fast Ethernet
Networks Toward High-Speed
Networking
The first upgrade phase is implemented in three areas:
Upgrading the backbone with a 100/1000 Mbps
Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet switch
Upgrading the workgroup switches that support
power users or large workgroups with Gigabit
Ethernet uplink
Implementing 100/1000 Mbps Fast
Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet NICs in key servers
As a result, the speed of the backbone increases tenfold
to accommodate the overall increase in network
bandwidth demand while the investment in existing
workgroup switches, end-station NICs, and existing
cabling is preserved.
The second migration phase is the upgrading of power
users to 100/1000 Mbps Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet
NICs. Gigabit Ethernet to the desktop will be supported,
giving power users full access to the resources of the
network.
