Selection of multiple resources
When performing an action from the GUI, HP recommends selecting only a few resources at one time.
Selecting a large number of resources at once can c ause slow response times.
For example, when d eleting several virtual disks, it may appear to take a few seconds in the GUI.
However, deleting 50 virtua l disks m ay take several minutes. The slower response can be misinterpreted
as a problem.
Simulation mode
For more inf
ormation, see the HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager Simulation guide. The
guide is ava
ilable from the help m enu of the replication manag er GUI and from the HP Storage web site.
See “Helpf
ul web sites” on page 19.
CAUTION:
HP strongly recommends that you do not run simulation mode on a production machine (that i s, on the sam e
machine as Command View EVA). If you disconnect the replication manager from Command View EVA, you
lose control of the storage resources that were being managed by the replication manager. If you purge the
replication manager database and have not backed it up, you will lose all jobs.
Over view
Simulation m o de allows you to use all of the functions of the replication manag er without having to use
any of your production data or resources. These functions include creating snapshots and snapclones,
creating DR groups and adding virtual disks to them, and per forming failovers.
Features and benefi ts:
• No SAN infrastructure, storage arrays, hosts, or management servers are required.
• Requires only replication manager server software running on a business class Windows desktop
or laptop computer.
• True simulation – not a set of predefined scenarios. Simulates GUI actions, jobs, a nd C LUI
commands.
• Allows you to create your own:
• Simulated storage arrays. Select features such as array capacity, software controller versions
and number of virtual disks.
• Simulated hosts. Include hosts and select the storage arrays they are connect to.
• Simulated Oracle da tabases. Simulate Oracle databases, tablespaces, datafiles, archived
redo logs, control files, and repositories.
