VRM Replacement for the rp24xx
DC-to-DC Converter Installation
This sheet contains instructions for replacement of the DC-to-DC Converters in the
server. These new DC-to-DC Converter modules are installed when new processors are
installed. The DC-to-DC Converters are replacements for the existing modules that
should be returned HP.
Special instructions concerning the DC-to-DC Converters are shipped in this upgrade kit.
Read and understand the instructions before installing the DC-to-DC Converters. When
you unpack the new DC-to-DC Converters, save the shipping carton and packing
materials. The old DC-to-DC Converters must be removed from the server and should be
returned to HP. Package the removed modules in the used packing materials and ship via
ground transportation.
Important Steps:
• The DC-to-DC Converter modules and the system board are Electrostatic
Discharge (ESD) sensitive and can be damaged during installation. Follow the
instructions in the ESD kit to ensure proper ESD procedures are used.
• Power is applied to server circuits even when the power switch is set to OFF.
Disconnect the power source before removing DC-to-DC Converters from server
connectors.
• Please return the old DC-to-DC Converter modules to HP. Refer to:

Procedure:
Step 1. Turn off and disconnect power from the server.
WARNING Dangerous voltages may be present if power is
connected. For your protection, disconnect the server from the
power source before proceeding.
Step 2. Remove the top cover to allow access to the system board and internal
components.
Step 3. ESD precautions are important. Use the ESD wrist strap when touching server
components.
Step 4. Locate the master and slave DC-to-DC Converter modules to be removed.
