Intended Use
For use with the OneTouch
®
Select
Blood Glucose Meter to check
that the meter and test strips are working together properly and
that you are performing the test correctly.
Summary and Explanation
OneTouch
®
Select
Control Solution contains a known amount of
glucose that reacts with OneTouch
®
Select
Test Strips. The test
result you obtain should fall within the range of results that you
will find printed on the vial of the test strips that you are using.
m CAUTION: The control solution range printed on the test strip
vial is for control solution only. It is used to test meter and test
strip performance. It is not a recommended range for your blood
glucose level.
m WARNING: Keep the meter and testing supplies away
from young children. Small items such as the battery door,
batteries, test strips, lancets, protective disks on the lancets,
and control solution vial cap are choking hazards.
Do a control solution test:
To practice the test process, instead of using blood.
Once a week.
Whenever you open a new vial of test strips.
If you suspect that the meter or test strips are not working
properly.
If you have had repeated unexpected blood glucose results.
If you drop or damage the meter.
A single control solution test that is within the expected range
is enough to tell you that the meter and test strips are working
together and that you are doing the test properly.
Composition
The control solution consists of glucose in water with buffers and
stabilizers, a viscosity adjusting agent, a preservative, and a dye.
The approximate glucose concentration for the OneTouch
®
Select
Control Solution is 0.11%. An expected range of glucose results
for the control solution is printed on the label of your
OneTouch

Select
Test Strips.

1. Control solution tests must be done at room temperature
(68–77°F). Make sure your meter, test strips, and control
solution are at room temperature before testing.
2. Shake the control solution vial well before testing.
3. Discard the first drop of control solution you squeeze out and
wipe the dispenser tip.
4. Be sure that APPLY CONTROL appears on the meter display
before applying control solution to the test strip. (See your
owner’s booklet for details.)
5. Apply the drop of control solution to the narrow channel in the
top edge of the test strip.
6. Your OneTouch
®
Select
Test Strips have two control ranges
printed on the vial. Be sure to compare the result to the correct
control range.
Tightly close the cap on the control solution vial immediately after
use to avoid contamination.
Each vial contains sufficient volume for a minimum of 75 tests.
Expected Results
At room temperature, OneTouch
®
Select
Control Solution test
results should fall within the expected range printed on the test
strip vial label about 95% of the time.
If test results fall outside the expected range, first repeat the
control solution test. Results outside the expected range may
indicate:
An error in the way you are doing the test.
Expired or contaminated control solution.
Damaged or expired test strips.
Use of a test strip or control solution past its discard date.
A problem with the meter.
Control solution that is too warm or too cold.
Failure to shake the control solution vial well.
Failure to discard the first drop of control solution and to wipe
the dispenser tip.
Failure to match the result to the correct control range.
Refer to your owner’s booklet for assistance. If you are unable to
resolve the problem, contact Customer Service.
Used test strips may be considered biohazardous waste in your
area. Be sure to follow your local regulations for proper disposal.
m CAUTION: If you continue to get control solution test results
