CUNA Mutual Turned to
Another Bell & Howell Product,

ere’s how one loyal Bell & Howell customer met
its expanding scanning needs. For five years, CUNA
Mutual Insurance Society used its trusty workhorse, the
Bell & Howell Copiscan 6338, to scan documents. But as
the giant Madison,Wis., insurer’s business surged by double
digits annually, it decided it needed a more powerful product
to meet its mounting volumes of work.
But CUNA Mutual didn’t want to hire additional staff or
sacrifice its traditional quality and accuracy of work. And, not
surprisingly, it wanted some insurance of its own — against
double feeds. It demanded that any upgraded system had to
prevent double feeds or detect them if they occurred. The
perfect system also had to be able to imprint a number
of documents before scanning and ensure that
everything was done the same day.
CUNA Mutual turned to Bell & Howell — and,
specifically to the Copiscan 8000 Plus Deluxe
Model (8080D). Bell & Howell had just begun
shipping the new high-end, high-volume
production scanner platform earlier in 2000.
CUNA Mutual wanted to see first hand how
the system would operate in its demanding
production environment, so Bell & Howell
provided it with the Copiscan 8080D
scanner on a trial basis.
After testing the scanner — developed to maximize a
customer’s productivity and ease of operation — CUNA
Mutual employees voiced their strong opinion. They
