Sett ing The Ti me, The First Time

Ea ste rn Ti me Zo ne, which is the initial default setting. The display will scan for a
fe w second s and th en show the corr ect Day and Time in the Eastern zone. If you
live in the Eastern Time zone, there's nothing else to do. Your clock is set correctly
and running.
If y o u do no t live i n the Ea s t ern Time z o n e you m u st cha n g e the d e fault z o ne
display to your own zone. You only do this one time and the SmartSet will remember
the new def ault zon e se ttin g an d wi ll a lway s re turn to that set ting aft er a pow er
interruption.
Th ere are 7 time z ones pro grammed into you r S martS et clock radio as follows :
ZONE 1 — Atlantic Time ZONE 2 — Eastern Time (Default Setting)
ZONE 3 — Central Time ZONE 4 — Mountain Time
ZONE 5 — Pacific Time ZONE 6 — Yukon Time

"2 " will a ppear on the dis play ind icating that the
default zone is ZONE 2, Eastern Time.
Hold the TIME ZONE button and then press either the or buttons
your own time zone appears on the display, then release the buttons. The clock
display will change to the correct time in the time zone you selected . The clock will
always return to the correct time in the zone you selected after every power interruption.

Unpa cking And Set Up
Rem ove the radi o fr om t he c arto n an d re move all pac king mat eria l fr om t he
radio. We suggest that you save the packing material, if possible, in the unlikely
event that your radio ever needs to be returned for service. The original carton
and packin g materi al is th e only s afe way to pack your rad io to pr otect it from
damage in transit.
Remove any descriptive labels or stickers on the front or top of the cabinet. Do
not r emove a n y label s or sti c k ers fr o m the b a c k or b o t tom of t he cab i n et.
Note the serial number on the bottom of your radio and write this number in the
space provided on the Warranty page of this manual.
Pl ace your radio o n a leve l surfac e such a s a tabl e, desk or shelf , conven ient
to an AC outle t, out o f direct sunligh t, and a way from sources of exce ss heat,
dirt, dust, moisture, humidity, or vibration.
Unwind the Line cord connecting the AC adapter and extend it to its full length.
The FM antenna is built in to this cord. It must be fully extended to provide the
best FM reception.
Prot ect Your Furnit ure

mo ving whe n you op erate th e contro ls. These 'feet' are made fro m non-mi grating
ru bber mat erial sp ecially formulat ed to av oid leav ing any marks or stains on your
furniture. However certain types of oil based furniture polishes, wood preservatives,
or clea ning spr ays may caus e th e ru bber 'fe et' to s ofte n, a nd l eave mar ks o r a
rubber residue on the furniture. To prevent any damage to your furniture we strongly
recommend that you purchase small self-adhesive felt pads, available at hardware
st ores and home im provemen t center s everyw here, an d apply these pa ds to th e
bo ttom of the rubb er 'feet ' before you pla ce the p roduct o n fine w ooden fu rniture.
Powe r Source
Thi s ra dio is d esig ned to o pera te o n no rmal 120 V 60 Hz AC powe r on ly. D o no t
attempt to operate the radio on any other power source. You could cause damage
to the radio that is not covered by your warranty.
This radio should be connected to an AC outlet that
is always 'live'. Do not connect it to an outlet that is
co ntrolled by a wa ll switc h. When the powe r to the
radio is interrupted, the built in lithium battery takes
over t o main t a in the t ime an d alarm s e ttings . To
maximize the life of the lithium battery keep the radio
connected to a 'live' AC outlet at all times.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
If you move to a di ffe rent tim e zo ne, simp ly c hang e th e de faul t zo ne d ispl ay t o
the new zone and the SmartSet will remember that setting for you.
Date D isplay
To see the correct date at any time, depress the MONTH/DATE button. The display
Changes from time to Month and Date (MM/DD).
For example, May 21st will appear as "5.21" .
When you release the MONTH/DATE button
the display returns to the correct time.
Year Di splay
To see the correct year, depre ss the M ONT H/DATE and TIM E buttons together.
The display changes from time to year.
When you release the MONTH/DATE and
TIME buttons the display returns to the
correct time.
Dayl ight Saving and Lea p Year Adjustments
All Daylight Saving and Leap Year adjustments are made automatically by
the SmartSet internal computer as follows:
Start of Daylight Saving Time:
At "2:00 AM" on the 2nd Sunday in March, the clock will automatically
advance to "3:00 AM".
End of Daylight Saving Time:
At '3:00 AM' on the 1st Sunday in November, the clock will automatically
reset to "2:00 AM".
Leap Year:
At "12:00 Midnight" on February 28th, the calendar display will change
to "2.29".
Manual Time Adjustments
Some people like to set their clocks 5 to 10 minutes fast to make sure that they will
always be on time. Even though the SmartSet sets the time by itself, you still have
the option of adjusting the time manually if you wish.
To manuall y adjust the tim e displa y depres s and ho ld the T IME butt on, and press
ei ther the /SET or /SE T buttons to a djust th e time d isplay a head
or back as desired .Each press o f the /SE T or /SET butto ns will
ch ange the display by one minute. If you hold the /SET or /SE T
bu ttons th e displa y will c ontinue to chang e. The displa y will change slowly at first,
one minute at a time. But if you continue holding the /SET or /SET
buttons the display will change rapidly.
NOTE: If you manually adjust the time, your new setting is entered into the
Smar t S e t mem ory. I f t h e p o wer is i nte r rup t ed, the dis p lay wil l re t urn to y our
new setting, not the original setting, when the power is restored.

Adju sting The Wake U p Time s
Your SmartSet cloc k ra dio has two separate alarms that can be set and used
in dependen tly. You may use the alar ms to wa ke two p eople at different times, or
yo u may us e one al arm for weekdays and the other f or weeke nd wake up times .
The pro cedu re f or a djus ting the wak e up tim e is the sam e fo r bo th Ala rm 1 and
Alarm 2.
1.) Depress and hold either the ALARM 1 or ALARM 2 setting button.
The display will change from the correct
time to the Alarm 1 o r Alar m 2 wake up
time.
2.) Whi le h oldi ng t he A LARM 1 o r A LARM 2 setting button, depress either the
/SET or /SET button to move the display ahead or back to your
d esired w ake up time.
3.) Whe n th e de sire d wa ke u p ti me a ppea rs o n th e di spla y, re leas e th e /
SET or /SE T buttons.
NO T E: Be s u r e that y o u hav e s et th e w ake u p t ime c o r r ectly b y obse r v i ng
the AM in d ica t or. If the AM ind icat or i s 'O n ' the wake up time is "AM" . If the
AM in di ca to r is ' Of f' , th e wa ke u p ti me i s "P M" .
4.) When the desi red wake up time (AM or PM) appe ars on t he d ispl ay, r elea se
the ALARM 1 or ALARM 2 setting buttons.
Sele cting The Alar m Week M ode
Your SmartSet clock radio allows you to select from among three different alarm
operation modes for either alarm . The alarm modes are:
Everyday the alarm will turn on all 7 days.
Weekdays only the alarm will only turn on Monday through Friday;
Weekends only the alarm will only turn on Saturday and Sunday.
To check the Alarm Mode setting for Alarm1, depress the ALARM 1 setting button.
The display will show the Alarm 1 wake up time and the DAY OF WEEK indicators
will show you the alarm mode which is selected.
If all 7 indicators are 'On', the Everyday mode is selected.
If only th e M ON(Mo nday) th rough FR I(Friday ) indica tors
are 'On', the Weekdays only mode is selected .
If only the SAT( Satu rday ) an d SU N (Su nday ) in dica tors
are 'On', the Weekends only mode is selected .

Rel ease the WEE K MO DE a nd A LARM 1 s etti ng b utto ns a nd t he d ispl ay w ill
return to the correct time.
Follow the same procedure to select the desired Alarm Mode for Alarm 2 if necessary.

This SmartSet Clock Radio includes a Sure Alarm battery back-up circuit that can
you up even if the power is 'Off' at the selected wake up time. If your power is 'Off' at the
selected wake up time the clock display will be off and the radio will not operate, but a
separate mini-buzzer will turn 'On' automatically to wake you up, even if you had selected
the 'Wake to Radio' option.The Sure Alarm will sound for 30 seconds and then shut
off automatically. To stop the Sure Alarm buzzer immediately, press the RADIO ON/
OFF button.Pressing the SNOOZE button has no effect during Sure Alarm operation.
